This project required the conditioning of a 28VDC output from an aircraft power source. Certain EMI requirements were also imposed on this design and hence the design was tested for radiated as well as conducted emissions. To insure the passage of the specified EMI requirements, a multi-layered PCB design was employed. Embedding the sensitive signals within the PCB, encased between ground planes insured that signals of interest remained protected from escaping into the open as well as protecting them from outside influences. PCB techniques such as via-in-pad were also used to insure optimum EMI performance. Additionally, reverse polarity protection was also required. The dimensional characteristics of this design required a machined aluminum housing. Due to the reduced form factor, thermal dissipation was also a primary concern as to insure correct operation over the entire specified temperature range.
